Petworth/Takoma Bus

In partnership with Casa Lala, Breakthrough operates a shuttle bus between Petworth and Takoma.

If your child would like to ride the Petworth/Takoma bus, please sign up via ParentSquare.

  • Children who wish to ride the bus in the morning gather at 1244 Taylor St. NW. The bus leaves at 8:00 AM each morning.

  • At dismissal, students who ride the bus wait in their classrooms and have a snack with aftercare students. At 4:15 PM they board the bus to return to Casa Lala 1244 Taylor St. NW.

  • The round trip bus is $14/day and is $7 for one-way. Sibling discount (10%), and scholarships for eligible families (50%).

  • Casa Lala provides their own Spanish-enrichment aftercare program Monday through Friday. If you are interested in your child participating in Casa Lala's bilingual (Spanish/English) Montessori afterschool programming, please visit Casa Lala's website at www.casalala.org. Students participating in Casa Lala aftercare board their bus at 3:15 PM. Please note that families interested in Casa Lala after school programming must coordinate and register directly with Casa Lala.

Pick Up and Drop Off

While we do offer carline service for arrivals and dismissals, we strongly recommend parking at the Seventh-day Adventist Church (2nd Ave + Laurel) parking lot and walking students to and from school. This lot offers public parking spots, is where our staff park as well, and is less than one block from the school — making it a simple and stress-free option for many families.

If you do plan to use the carline, we ask that all parents follow the same traffic flow to help things run smoothly: please enter from Aspen Street, drive past the school, and exit toward Carroll Street/Eastern Avenue. See the visual below for a clearer picture of the traffic pattern.

We've noticed that when cars go against this flow, it creates a bottleneck and understandably raises frustration for everyone involved. Thank you in advance for helping us keep pick-up and drop-off safe, smooth, and stress-free for all our families!
